Government Takes Axe to Residential Care Subsidies
The Social Security Act provides that gifts in excess of the limits shown below are added back to a person’s assets (at time of applying for a subsidy):
a) Gifts in excess of $6,000 per annum in the 5 year period before application is made;
b) Gifts in excess of $27,000 per annum at any other time – in other words, there is no time limit of the over $27,000 add back.
