Q. What will the minimum wage be from 1 April 2012?
A. The minimum wage will change from $13 per hour to $13.50 per hour (before PAYE) on 1 April 2012 for all employees 16 years and over (except those on the “training wage” or “new entrants”). However, if you include the 8% holiday pay component in your wages each pay then the minimum wage will become $14.58 per hour ($13.50 + 8%).
Q. How does Kiwisaver legislation change from1 April 2012?
A. From 1 April 2012 all employers will be required to calculate employer superannuation contribution tax (ESCT) on all employer contributions to Kiwisaver. The tax exemption on the first 2% will no longer apply. The rate of ESCT that will apply will depend on the employee’s “relevant remuneration”. This is calculated from their taxable income plus Kiwisaver employer contributions and other Superannuation contributions.
